Every day I always wonder what I'll make for dinner, I research a few recipes for inspiration and decide on a fantastic meal to make for my family. The flexibility I have to be creative in my meals is because I already have the ingredients on hand. At Lundan's House I cook everyday...it's cheaper, brings my family together and I become more familiar with cooking! Don't get me wrong I'm not a professional but doing your fare share of research is fun! My mom is a great home taught chef. She helps out with meal planning, I'll post about this later. Let't get started on my fridge staples. These items aren't expensive and can be included in almost any type of meal ex: Mexican food, Thai even Italian. I'll categorize this for you to make it easier. I always purchase these items every time I order delivery (makes my life easier with a baby to order my groceries to my front door) from my local grocery store. I'll be starting with diary, meat, grain, veggies and then condiments.
1. DAIRY
Half and half - This is great for thickening your pasta sauce or adding to your scrambled eggs
A small jug of 2% milk
Cheese - Mozzarella, Parmesan and cheddar (Most of the time these items are on sale, shredded or whole slices. I use this in pasta, Mexican dishes or sandwiches. This can also be expensive so search around for the best price)
Eggs - Breakfast or a meat binder for meatballs
BUTTER - Always salted
2. PROTEIN
Bacon such a GREAT staple in your fridge - breakfast plates, wrapped around a pork tenderloin, or on a BLT SO GOOD!
Ground meat - Turkey (Healthier and you can flavor this how you want, reach out to me how to do this I can help), Ground beef/pork in my freezer for meat balls
Pork chops - Pork is new to my husband, he loves it!
Sandwich meat - Really for myself because I don't eat out for lunch...too expensive!
3. GRAIN
Tortillas - I use the raw ones that you have to skillet cook, way more fresh and pliable for different dishes
Bread - Put this is your fridge at ALL times, it lasts 3 x's longer!
Pizza dough - Not expensive super easy to follow directions and tastes delicious when homemade ;) Oh and very fancy haha
4. VEGGIES
Onions/shallots/purple onions
Bell peppers - Green is usually the least expensive but because I love color in my dishes I buy the pack with yellow, red and orange
Cucumber - Great with purple onions and tomatos dressed in balsamic vinegar, a fresh side salad
Brussel sprouts - You can purchase these fresh, great vegetable side with ANY meat
Tomatoes
Green onions
Cilantro - Get a clay pot, purchase this plant from your hardware store and grow it yourself! Gross like a weed!
Avocados - No need to purchase the more expensive large ones, the smaller ones taste the same I promise
Kale - SUPER FOOD (Very cheap, you could grow this yourself too!)
5. CONDIMENTS
Tabasco/Chalula
Balsamic Vinegar
Pesto
Burger condiments
Tomato Paste
